In order to promote the agricultural production of the Pallatanga canton, the Chimborazo Prefecture, through the General Directorate of Irrigation, delivered 1,000 meters of corrugated 175 mm PVC pipe, which will serve to improve and rehabilitate the irrigation canal of the Mocata community, allowing optimization of water conduction.
Nelly Alvarado, irrigation technician of the Provincial Government, said that through these works the productive sector is contributed, reactivating the agricultural areas of the territory. “Irrigation is vital for our farmers and ranchers, so we provide all support to these sectors (…) from the prefecture we continue working on projects that strengthen agriculture and livestock,” she said.
With this intervention, more than 22 families of farmers in the Mocata community benefit, managing to improve the flow for 60 hectares, the users provide their contingent with the labor for the execution of the works, in addition, the prefecture will contribute with the technical direction by the irrigation team.
Nicolás Pasto, president of the Mocata Water Board, acknowledged the efforts made by the Chimborazo Prefecture: “We have had this irrigation canal for 40 years and we were never taken into account, in this area we have had problems, because we spent 6 months without water when summer arrives, now with this pipe we are no longer going to go through these inconveniences ”. The community leader pointed out.
The commitment of the Provincial Government remains firm, guaranteeing a good irrigation service for the users of this canton, who are dedicated to the cultivation of potatoes, corn, sugarcane, oranges and the raising of dairy cattle.
