RESERVOIR CLEANING WILL STRENGTHEN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION IN MORE THAN A THOUSAND HECTARES

The Chimborazo Prefecture, through the General Directorate of Irrigation, executes the cleaning works in reservoir 61 of the Chambo – Guano – Los Chingazos Irrigation System, in the Aguisacte sector of the Riobamba canton, with the help of the users of this zone. The intervention is carried out with machinery from the Provincial Government, consisting of 4 dump trucks, a backhoe, a front loader and a mini loader.

“We are cleaning the weeds that are on the side walls, sending them to the base of the canal to carry out the respective evacuation (…) in this way we promote the work of farmers so that they can do it more efficiently and quickly” , said Alex Valente, Technician of the Prefecture of Chimborazo.

With the cleaning of this reservoir, 3,000 user families benefit, managing to strengthen the productivity of 1,540 hectares of land. “Thanks to the machinery with which the prefecture supports us, we are able to clean faster, because it is impossible by hand (…) we recognize that these works help us with our crops,” said María Chicaiza, a user of the irrigation system.

The cleaning is expected to last 4 days, taking into account that the works span 7 channels.
