The “Carnivals closest to the sun”, seek the economic reactivation of Chimborazo, responsibly, becoming an innovative proposal, presented by the Provincial Government, in conjunction with cultural, recreational, artistic, musical, entrepreneurial, gastronomic activities, among others. ; under all the guidelines of the national and cantonal COE’s.
With the “Pawka Raymi” ritual, headed by the “Yachag” Ana María Guacho, the official presentation of the “Carnivals closest to the sun” began, an ancient Andean religious ceremony in honor of Pachacámac or Pacha Kamag, which aims to thank and share the products that mother earth gives each year.
After the ritual of gratitude and purification, Hilario Naula, director of Tourism and International Cooperation, in his welcoming remarks highlighted the work carried out by Juan Pablo Cruz, Prefect of Chimborazo, as part of the strengthening of ancestral cultures and traditions.
For his part, Patricio Costales, president of the Chimborazo Chamber of Tourism, highlighted the importance of economic reactivation for the tourism sector and invited local and national tourists to enjoy all the events scheduled on the agenda to celebrate carnivals in province, with the assurance that all service providers are ready to attend with the corresponding biosecurity measures.
María José Pontón, Governor of the Province, called for citizen co-responsibility and assured that the control authorities will be activated throughout the carnival holiday.
Luis Falconí, president of the Chimborazo Tourism Management Committee, was in charge of carrying out the official launch of the “Carnivals closest to the sun 2022”, emphasizing that it is a cultural event that reflects the identity of all the Chimborazo peoples. “We present a wide variety of free events with quality and safety, with billboards that will take place in the 10 cantons,” he said.
The activities will begin on Friday, February 25 with the presentation of artists such as: Manolo and La Sonora Dinamita in the cantons of Chunchi, Pallatanga and Cumandá.
On Saturday 26, in Riobamba, the carnival parade will be held, which will feature artists on mobile platforms and more than 50 dances (local, national and international); During the afternoon at the craft and gastronomic fair in Plaza Alfaro, the orchestra “Los Titos” will be presented and at night on the esplanade of Quinta Macají, the presentations of Danny Osorio as a local artist, from Colombia, Daniel Calderón and Los Gigantes. of the Vallenato; and from Chile, Américo.
In the general programming in the 10 cantons, they will also have the support of the Prefecture during the four days of the holiday; These activities are articulated, above all in the good treatment of tourists and visitors, as well as their free quality, guaranteeing safety.
