Chimborazo Prefecture joined the initiative of the “World Day for cleaning rivers and beaches”

From the Directorate of Environmental Management of the Provincial Government of Chimborazo, the event called “Cleaning of Beaches and Water Bodies 2021” was held, which took place on Saturday, September 18, in the Chambo River basin, bridge sector “Isidro Ayora ”, with the aim of recovering the ecosystem and natural resources of this tourist sector of the province.

Thousands of volunteers participate nationwide in this day dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of keeping beaches, rivers, estuaries and water bodies clean, in addition, they promote positive changes in the behavior of those who cause pollution, In Chimborazo, the Provincial Government and several institutions joined this campaign of the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition, called “Water Unites us.”

“We have coordinated with the Ministry of Environment and Water, to start a great crusade in the Chambo river basin, in the Guano canton, which borders Penipe (…) the distance, the cleaning sweep of organic and inorganic waste is approximately 3 km, the main objective of this day is to create awareness and sensitize all public institutions that have the competence of environmental management and also citizens so that we can take care of nature “, said Alfredo Chuquimarca, Director of Environmental Management.

The representatives of public institutions such as the GAD of the canton Penipe, La Providencia, Guanando, among others; They promised to continue working to strengthen and take care of these resources that are disappearing over time.

“Unfortunately, there is still no education in our culture and society (…) we call on all the inhabitants of our province, the country and the world to raise awareness and protect our planet (…) Penipe is a tourist canton but these actions are what they harm us, ”said Lourdes Mancero, mayor of Penipe.
