The Prefecture of Chimborazo inaugurated the lining of the irrigation canals in the Gatazo 2 community of the Colta canton, in a length of 9,590 meters and an investment of 63,560.32 dollars.

Segundo Lucas Yépez, president of the Gatazo Pucará community and coordinator of the Board of Irrigators Take No. 2 Sicalpa – Los Gatazos, stated that they have waited more than 50 years for this type of work to be carried out in this sector. “More than 90% of people from Gatace are dedicated to agriculture (…) now the prefect, a man with projection to the future, gives us this fundamental work for irrigation,” he said.

For his part, Pedro Rea, secretary of the community of Gatazo Zambrano, said that previously the flow of water was deficient, now with this work the liquid arrives quickly and strengthens the work of all farmers.

Juan Pablo Cruz, prefect of the province of Chimborazo, in his speech, highlighted the investment made in this work, which benefits 1,700 families dedicated to agriculture, livestock and commerce.

“We continue to work for the well-being of the communities of our ten cantons, promoting irrigation, productive development and family development,” said Cruz. At the end of the event, the authority, together with the technicians and leaders of the different communities, toured the work and verified the benefits that it provides to users.
